Are CDs watching??

The excitement of another audition, and yet the same question runs through your mind – are they gonna watch the whole thing? That depends. More and more, we are discovering that any self tape needs to deliver impact within the first few seconds. That’s a hard thing to do when you only got one line or two, and they may only be one word each. Really, for me, my feeling is, you’ve just gotta give it your best shot, especially since there’s so much else that counts besides the acting part.
When it comes to self tapes, it’s very easy to begin overthinking, and that can lead down the road to bad acting, and getting lost in what a good take is from a bad take.
Another difficulty we face with self tapes is not having any story outside of the sides we get. Even with a six or eight page audition, we still don’t have any clear backstory on the character(s), and so it can be hard to know where the jumping off point is emotionally.
